Who is on the other side? How verification works

ID, selfie and ownership checks, and why your phone number stays private until you choose.

In short
  • Everyone who contacts or is contacted passes an ID and selfie check.
  • Landlords also prove they own the home, or hold a written mandate from the owner.
  • Your phone number is shared only after a viewing is approved.

Why everyone is checked

Most rental trouble starts with not knowing who you are talking to: a “landlord” who is really an agent, a flat that is not theirs to let, or a tenant who is not who they say. On noagent.rent nobody can contact anyone, or be contacted, without a verified identity.

The ID and selfie check

You photograph an identity document and take a selfie. The verification provider checks that the document is genuine and that the selfie matches it. noagent.rent keeps only the result and a reference; the document itself stays with the provider.

Proof of ownership for landlords

Before a listing goes live, the landlord uploads a document that shows they own the property, or a written mandate from the owner as a family member or company director. Only our reviewers see it, and it is deleted after the check.

Look for the chips. Listings show “ID-checked owner” and “Ownership proven” only when those checks have passed. They are never shown as colour alone.

What the other side sees

When you request a viewing, the landlord sees your name and your verification status. Your phone number is shared only after they approve the viewing. Landlords never see your ID document.

What happens to agents

Accounts that act for other people for a fee are closed after a review. The verified identity is blocked, so a new account with the same person does not work. You can appeal within 14 days with objective proof, and a person reviews every appeal.
